THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD IN ACTION Sometimes,
it's helpful to see just what day-to-day work gets done by the ARB in
their meetings, and what is involved and what to expect. Here, for
your entertainment and education, are the selected minutes of three
consecutive meetings during January, February & March of 2009 on
one single topic. The subject is a roof at 312 Georgia Street. The minutes speak for themselves. I
can't imagine what it's like to have a roof take 3+ months to get
approval. Think of the price difference, from being able to
get a roof right after Christmas season, when contractors are eager to
deal, versus waiting until Spring, when customers are coming out of the
woodwork and rain is pouring down and roofers can name their price.
Not to speculate on the cost roofers will begin to add on to
historical properties, when their supervisors are tied up in meeting
after meeting, getting approval for something, anything, to put on the
roof that will please both the homeowner AND the 10 members of the Architectural Review Board. Plus,
although no one seemed to object from the public on this issue,
the
public does have a right to speak out and suggest a veto for anything
they don't like....and the ARB listens. So scroll down
and read the minutes, and at the bottom are photos of the house.
Keep in mind that the Owner's proposed roofing contractor had to
start contact in December in order to have discussions occur in the
first January meeting.... |
